Egypt: 2009 Tourist numbers up on 2008
Egypt’s tourist industry is on the up based on recently released figures. Numbers fell by 9.5% during the 1st half of 2009 due to the current economic climate, but figures for July 2009 are actually up based on the same period last year. Holidays are a luxury item & as the worldwide recession hit fewer people were travelling overseas.
The Egyptian tourist industry is the largest sector of Egypt’s economy & the 12.8 million visitors are worth a staggering US$11 billion each year! It is one of a number of countries which has a high percentage of tourist growth each year, & the number of new developments show confidence in the expanding property market. Developers are keeping up with demand & the new purpose built resort of Sahl Hasheesh shows how quickly the tourist market is growing.
The fact that tourists are still visiting Hurghada despite the recession shows its popularity as a year round resort & the low cost of living compared to most of Western Europe means that they will get good value for money.
Egypt is firmly establishing itself as a top destination with affordable property available for purchase & one of the few countries whose tourist industry is actually growing in these difficult times.
